As we have said before, so I now say again: If anyone preaches to you any gospel other than the one you received—a curse on him! (Galatians 1:9)
I was watching one of those investigative TV shows recently about how widespread the sale of counterfeit or illegal medicines were. But let me be clear, this was not medicine you purchase from your local pharmacy. This was medicine people were buying through the internet or from illegal sources so that they could save money. What they found was alarming. They found that some of these fake medicines either contained fake or worthless ingredients or worse they contained harmful ingredients. Some of the fake ingredients found were poisonous and some were worthless like corn starch.
The lesson from all this is clear. Counterfeit medications are out there. You cannot simply assume that every medication is the same. Know where the medicine came from. Know who made it. Know what’s in it. Counterfeit medicines might look like they are real on the outside, but on the inside they can be harmful or worthless. Neither of which we would want if we purchased these items.
The same is true for the medicine we need for our souls. Sadly in our society right now the assumption by many people is that as long as a book or a sermon or a video series or a song on a radio station is labeled “spiritual” in some way, then it must be okay. That assumption is wrong. Dead wrong. And the consequences can be fatal.
The truth is that there are many counterfeit teachers and teachings all around us and on the outside they might look and sound like they are good and OK, but we need to watch out for the counterfeit teachings that are out there as Paul writes, As we have said before, so I now say again: If anyone preaches to you any gospel other than the one you received—a curse on him!
So how do we know if we are getting God’s true Gospel? The only way to know that we are getting the truth is to know the source and our source is God’s Word. And the medicine we need to receive is the simple and yet powerful message of the Gospel that Jesus came and did everything for our salvation. When a soul swallows any spiritual medicine that is not the pure gospel message of Jesus Christ, that soul is swallowing the spiritual equivalent of spiritual poison or something that is spiritually worthless to their faith. At best it replaces the real medicine of Jesus’ perfect life and death which we all need with some kind of fake gospel which in most cases points our salvation back to us and our good works. At worst it delivers the spiritual poison of turning someone away from the truth of Jesus to eternal destruction in hell.
Sin is a fatal disease, and you and I were born with it. For this disease there is only one Answer and one Cure. It is the perfect life Jesus lived as our Substitute. It is the perfect death Jesus died to wash away all our sin. It is the tomb Jesus made empty at Easter to assure us that eternal life is ours. This is the pure Gospel and the medicine that we all need. No counterfeits will do. So open your Bibles and hear his Word so that you may always know who the true Jesus is and the perfect medicine he has given us for our salvation.

Mens's Bible Study
Next Tuesday October 15 at 9:00 am, all the men are invited to join us for Bible study, food and fellowship.
Sunday morning Bible classes have resumed. Pastor Frey will be leading us through a study on "The Lord's Supper." We will see what God's Word has to say about the Lord's Supper and we will see the many blessings God gives to us through this sacrament.
Our Monday/Tuesday Bible classes also have resumed. The same class is offered on either Monday at 8:00 am or Tuesday evening at 5:30 pm. Pastor Gartner will be leading a study of God’s Word under the theme: “What Does It Mean To Be A Lutheran?” Have you ever had questions about some of the main differences between all the Christian churches or maybe just have wondered how come we there are so many different types of Christian churches? If so, please come and join us as we explore what God’s Word has to say about some very key teachings that the devil is trying to distort.
NOTE: We do have audio recordings and the Lesson Sheets of these Bible Classes. If you have been unable to attend and would like these sent to you, please email Pastor Frey or Pastor Gartner. We also have the audio file of Pastor Steven Prahl's Bible Class from this past Mission Festival Sunday.
Quarterly Voter's Meeting
Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00 pm we will have our next Quarterly Voter’s Meeting. Since we revised our Constitution, this meeting is now our “Elections and Finances” Voter’s meeting, which means that we will be having elections for Vice President, Head Trustee and Evangelism Chairman. We will also be making decisions about other financial matters for this coming year such as salaries and amounts sent to FVL and the Synod. All Voters: please make plans to attend this important meeting.
NOTE: Because of the weather forcast and the lack of people signed up, we are postponing the Adopt-a-Highway until next Saturday October 19. The time is yet to be determined. If you are interested in helping next Saturday, please contact Kevin Voight directly at 920-858-3141 and he will let you know the exact time. Thanks!
